The news of the 2025 International Father’s Day Celebration may have come and gone, but for some obvious reasons, the memories of the just concluded historic celebration remain elegant in the annals of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church Amakohia, Owerri Archdiocese in Owerri-North LGA, Imo State.
The Father’s Day Celebration is a religious celebration marked by fathers across the globe as a reminder of the role of the father in the church and the family as agents of positive change.
The theme of the 2025 Father’s Day Celebration was tagged: “Responsible Christian Father.
The first phase started after the 10: am Mass at the Church auditorium known as “Ama Chineke” under the the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Father Reginald Egbu, the Vicar-General of Owerri Archdiocese, with an opening prayer by the Vicar-General in serene environment of joyous feelings and nostalgia.
This phase features the teaching of the tenets of what a responsible father should be and his role in the church and family.
The Catholic Men’s Organization (CMO) ritual, recitation, and the needs of the church, which is the launching of quality plastic chairs for the service of God.
This call received a commendable response from the men and women of the church.
To recognize the philanthropic services of some individuals, there was the award of honors to be awarded to some deserving person who has distinguished themselves in the service of God and humanity.
The award was spread across all fields of human endeavors, which makes it very interesting and savoring as the recipients who came in person and proxy supported the program by accepting the awards with cash donations.
The second and final phase of the Father’s Day Celebration took place at the front of the church, featuring music and dance by the CMO cultural group, remarks from the Chairman of the Father’s Day Celebration, and the chairman of Parish CMO, cutting off the celebration cake support for the program and refreshments.
In his opening speeches, the chairman of the Celebration, Hon. Sir. Ikpeama PO, thanked the leadership of the CMO for finding him worthy to chair the 2025 Father’s Day Celebration.
According to him, Father’s Day is a historic sober time that calls fathers into action to live up to the responsibility of being a father- taking care of our families, leading them into God in moral teaching, serving God and humanity, and reaching out to our extended families.
He concluded by asking the Father to live responsibly to the family, church, and others to build a healthy society.
Ezinna Christian Emeana, the CMO Chairman, also charged fathers to leave responsibly.
Emeana used Joseph of the Arimathea, the foster father of Jesus Christ, as one of the good examples of a responsible Christian Father. Emeana explained the nexus between responsible parenting and the Christian Father as shown in the early life of Jesus.
As a professional carpenter, Jesus was able to fare for his family. In other words, a responsible Christian Father entails being engaged with something from which he earns a living and takes care of his family.
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of the father having quality time with his family to teach them morals as well as the Catholic faith, which is centered on Jesus Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and loving humanity.
The cutting of the anniversary cake was done by the Vicar-General, Very Rev. Father Reginald Egbu, in the company of others. The Chairman of the anniversary opened the cutting of the cake with the sum of #100,000 cases, followed by others.
The 2025 Father’s Day Celebration by the CMO, Amakohia Church, terminated with sumptuous refreshments organized according to wards or groupings, with each ward preparing food of their choice.
Some of the notable dignitaries are Prof. Laz Uzoechi, Pastoral Council Chairman of St. Catholic Church, Archidiosean Secretary, Sir. Ernest Nnanabu, Ichie Chief Ohale Peter, CWO President, Mrs. Emeana, and other heads and leaders of the Parish.
