
Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Governor of Imo State, on Thursday, the 9th of May, delivered the 52nd Convocation Lecture of the University of Nigeria with the topic: “Why The Universities Should Lead The Way To A New Nigeria”.
According to Uzodimma “My population in this lecture is that our universities should provide the compass that should lead us to that new, prosperous great Nigeria that is capable of addressing the emerging challenges such as the challenge posed by climate change.”
The lecture which reveals painstaking intellectual research and investment, not only nailed the topic but largely brought to the fore, the relationship between the presenter and what he is presenting to the exalted audience seated at the Princess Alexandra Auditorium (PAA) of the University of Nigeria.
In their remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Prof. Charles Arinzechukwu Igwe, FAN, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Adewusi Ojaja II, CFR, the Ooni of Ife, and Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Maj. Gen. Ike Nwachukwu (Rtd), former Governor of Old Imo State and Senator representing Abia North, the Chairman of the Lecture, and Chief Dr. Engr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President-General of Oha Na Eze Ndi-Igbo Worldwide remarked this is one of the best lectures in recent times. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Igwe, thanked the Governor for not only showing capacity in leadership but also intellectual discourse.
Governor Hope Uzodimma ended his lecture with an announcement of “Hope Uzodimma Chair For Good Governance and Civic Responsibility” to be sited at the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences. Uzodimma thanked the Deputy Governor, Lady Chinyere Ihumoma Ekemaro who shall be convocating with a PhD Degree
Those in attendance are Former Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, Minister of Trade, Commence and Investment, Hon. Mrs. Doris Uzoka-Anite, Sen. Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi, Imo East, and Chief Kyrian Uchegbu, PhD, NDDC Commissioner (Imo Rep), led members of the Federal appointees, while Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, led the State Lawmakers.
Others include Hon. Declan Emelumba commissioner for information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Hon. Ikenna Elezianaya, commissioner for science/ technology/Innovation and Engineering, Hon. Ralph Nwosu, Commissioner for Works, Hon. Nnamdi Anyaghi, Chief of Staff, Chief, former Sen. of Enugu North, Chukwuka Utazi, etc.
Presentation of Awards of different recognitions was given to the 52nd convocation lecturer, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, by the University, the National Association of Imo State Students (NAISS), NAANS, SUG, UNN, Post-Graduate Students Associations, etc.
