Abuja, Nigeria – In a major crackdown on transnational crime, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, have rescued 46 victims of human trafficking and arrested seven suspects involved in a syndicate operating across Ghana and Nigeria.
According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the successful operation followed a distress alert from INTERPOL NCB Accra, which revealed that several individuals had been deceived with fake promises of overseas employment and trafficked into Nigeria.
Of the victims, 31 were lured with the promise of jobs in Europe but ended up trapped in fraudulent online marketing activities orchestrated by members of the QNET network. Among the key suspects is Attah Amankwaah, a Ghanaian residing in Nigeria, accused of collecting GHC 30,000 from a victim, Samuel Dankwah Opoku, under the guise of processing a job placement in Spain.
A police raid on the syndicate’s base led to the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of incriminating evidence linking the group to a broader web of human trafficking and cybercrime.
In a related operation, police apprehended Achiaa Grace Afrifa, 39, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, after four additional Ghanaians reported being trafficked and defrauded of GHC 126,000. A further 15 victims were rescued from her custody on June 18, 2025.
All victims have been handed over to the Ghana High Commission in Abuja for safe repatriation and reintegration. The suspects remain in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and formal arraignment in court.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the prompt international collaboration and reaffirmed the Force’s resolve to dismantle organized crime networks exploiting vulnerable individuals.
“The Nigeria Police Force stands firm in protecting human rights, advancing justice, and strengthening global cooperation to fight cross-border crimes,” the IGP declared.
