Political pundits have talked so much about the educational qualifications of the APC’s “Governor-Elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, but have forgotten that this doesn’t count in the Constitution; hence, Nigeria doesn’t run a “Merit-Driving” system or economy. I never expected Mr. Asue Ighodalo to win despite being a good brand. He was marketed by a bad marketer. From the time Mr. Godwin Obaseki chose Asue, he started burning bridges as if he hated or had brought Asue to punish him. Godwin is at loggerhead with the Edo people -Oba of Benin. He fought his political engine block -Philips Shaibu and he destroyed the “PDP Legacy group,” the people who gave him the platform and shielded him when he defected from the APC to the PDP during his Second Term bid. All through the electioneering periods up to the casting of votes, Godwin Obaseki has been frontally quarrelsome than diplomatic. His geopolitics appreciation weaned drastically and plummeted until the defeat. Instead of choosing his fight carefully, he went to war against all perceived enemies, whether real or imagined. This is against the run of play!APC fielded two (home men or boys) and National lawmakers with a large war chest and backing of the “Enemies Within”. Monday and Dennis Idahosa speak “Street Languages” that are understood by Edo voters. At the National, the PDP is headless and leaderless, so how would he have won the elections? Unlike the APC, which had its squabbles but was able to close ranks and fix issues to defeat a common enemy- Godwin Obaseki, courtesy of Mr. President, who brokered the Peace between Monday and Dennis after having parallel primary elections. In my view, Godwin destroyed Asue’s chances of winning the election just like Senator Adams Oshiomhole destroyed Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu with his mouth politically.
