The Executive Chairman of Oguta Local Government Area, Imo State, Hon. Ifeanyi Nnani, has commenced palliative works on the Agwa-Ejemekwuru Road in Oguta State.
The Chairman, who was ably represented by the performing Supervisory Councilor for Works, Hon. Jefferson Ernest Amakiri, performed the official flag-off ceremony around 12: 45 pm on Tuesday, 22nd of April 2025, at the Boro pity axis of the road.
Addressing pressmen during the flag-off, Hon. Chief Jefferson Ernest Amakiri, Supervisory Councilor for Works, who represented the Chairman, Hon. Ifeanyi Nnani, thanked His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma for his good governance in the State and the Executive Chairman, Hon. Ifeanyi Nnani for embarking on this project.
Hon. Amakiri appreciates the efforts of Agwa political leaders for constantly reminding the chairman about the State of the road,d, and today; we are here to give a facelift while waiting for the full construction of the road.
“Today, we are here to Flag-off the Agwa-Ejemekwuru Road to make it usable for the people of the Agwa/Ejemekwuru and its environs.
I am directed by the Executive Chairman of Oguta LGA, Hon. Ifeanyi Nnani to pass this message of hope and renewed commitment to see that every aspect of our economic life that needs attention would be attended to.
“The importance of a good road network cannot be overlooked in the logic of economic development, and as such, a road like this, which connects to Agwa and Ohaji-Egbema to Rivers State, is very important to the Government of Imo State and Hon. Ifeanyi Nnani, the council chairman.”
This project is remedial work which is expected to last for three working days except otherwise. The engineers and operators are contracted to fill up the potholes and smoothen the surfaces for easy mobility and access.
“I, therefore, flag off this road project and supervise it to a logical conclusion as directed by the chairman, Hon. Ifeanyi Nnan, I, for good use,” Amakiri said
The HOD of Oguta LGA on Works, Engr. Eribe Ndubuisi commends the zeal of Hon. Ifeanyi Nnani in giving attention to system needs that promote the local economy, such as roads, security, and health.
“Hon. Ifeanyi Nnani has shown that he came prepared to lead the people of Oguta. By undertaking this project, the people of Agwa would have a sign of relief occasioned by the deplorable state of the road”, he said.
The 5.5-kilometer road connects seven autonomous communities in the Oguta oil clan-Ejemekwuru, Ubah, Obudi, Mgbala, Mbano, Umuofeke, and Uwaorie Autonomous Communities. It is also a gateway to Ohaji-Egbema, Rivers State, and beyond; it is economically strategic to the local economy of the people.
Over the years, the road has witnessed neglect by the government, which has made it difficult for commuters to access it, leading to criminal elements committing all sorts of crimes, including rapes, kidnapping, snatching of phones and bags containing valuable items, etc.
This remedial work would reduce the plight of road users who ply the road for their daily economic activities, especially as we approach the rainy season.
Recall that there has been a series of community and personal efforts to fix the road and make it motorable, the last of which was done by Hon. Chief Chima Oscar Ukemezie JP, Ochiagha I of Agwa, during and after the 2024 Local Government Areas Elections, which he was one of the frontline contestants.
Leaders of the clans who were in attendance during the flag-off are Hon. Williams Ezeikpe Ejiakor, former SA to the governor on Niger Delta Affairs and House of Assembly Candidate, Hon. Sir. Collins Ughala, SA, to the governor on Public Communication and Orientation, Hon. Collins Ugo Jumbo, former Local Government aspirant, Hon. Williams Chinedu Okenesi, Oguta APC Secretary and the Supervisory Councilor for Education, Hon. Emeka Njoku, Ejemekwuru, Hon. Chief Chima Oscar Ukemezie (JP), Ochiagha I of Agwa, former chairmanship aspirant, Oguta LGA, Engr. Sammy Black.
Other political and community leaders including, Hon. Christina Okoro, Majority Leader of Oguta Legislative Council and the Councilor representing Obudi/Aro Ward, Hon. Solomon Awuzie, Councilor Uwaorie Ward and Chairman, Committee on Medical and Primary Health Care, Hon. Barry Udochukwu, Councilor, Mgbala/Ubah Ward and Chairman committee on Finance and Appropriation, Chief Vitalis Chimezie Ekeh, President-General, Obudi Autonomous Community, Mr. Bertram, President-General, Umuofeke Autonomous Community, Mr. Chinoso Samuel Onuegbu, amongst others.
