Ahead of the 2024 Local Government Election stipulated to be held on Saturday, September 21st, all five Chairmanship Aspirants from Agwa Clan extraction met at closed doors on Tuesday evening, 13th of August 2024.
Inside Agwa correspondents gathered that the crucial meeting which was held at the Owerri residence of Dr. (Bishop) Gideon Uchechukwu Nwaeze, a two-term elected Chairman of Oguta LGA and the Apex Leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress APC was unconnected to the need to find a political soothing balm to its quest to clinching the position of the first citizen the oil-rich Local government.
According to an insider source who does not want his name to be mentioned, says that the meeting became imperative to address issues of connecting concern ranging from the need for Aspirants to be civil, and brotherly in their various electioneering campaigns, shun campaigns of calumny, hate speeches, and and another political maneuvering that is capable of blackmailing any aspirants and hitting the polity unnecessarily.
The source further revealed that the Oguta APC Apex Leader, Dr. (Bishop) G. U. Nwaeze, appealed to the aspirants to promote the culture of political maturity, desisting from politics of bitterness hence there is no need for brothers to engage themselves in political fights which could compromise the peace of the clan and create rancor amongst themselves.
Recall that following the announcement by the Chairman of Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), Chief Dr. Charles Ejiogu, of their intentions to conduct Local Government Elections n in all the 27 LGAs and 305 wards in Imo State. Since then, political activities in Imo State have swung up, promoting a beehive of political high flyers in the State among parties that have shown interest in participating in the proposed elections.
Regardless of the high cost of the APC’s forms, there are twelve aspirants in the local government who purchased the expression of interest and nomination forms with a non-refundable sum of three million Naira for the chairmanship position, and out of these aspirants, five hails from Agwa spreading in two out of three electoral wards in Agwa.
The are; Comr. Johnbosco Chimokwo Obodo, Hon. Collins Ugo Jumbo, and Realtor Oscar Chima Ukemezie, all from Mgbala/Ubah Ward. We have Hon. William Ezeikpe Ejiako and Engr. Jerry Asoluka Irriaka, from Uwaorie Ward, Agwà.
Others were Engr. Sammy Black, Engr. Mike Onyekachi Akalador, Sir. Collins Ughala.
