Jubilation has rocked the Umumgbogo kindred of Ihuoba in Obudi Autonomous Community, Oguta Local Government Area, Imo State, as one of their illustrious sons, Mr. Ebere Igweoji, pledged to take care of a two-year security levy of the Umumgbogo kindred.
Mr. Igweoji, a successful businessman and a philanthropist, made this donation on the occasion of the Agwa General Assembly organized by the Agwa Central Union (ACU), the apex social and cultural body midwifing the affairs of Agwa at the Central School Obudi.
The meeting, which was attended by well-meaning Agwa sons and daughters both home and abroad, was a great moment of communal brainstorming and progressive thinking in advancing the growth and development of the clan.
The National President-General of ACU, Barr. Benson Akunya, during his address to the August gathering, reels out some of the high points of the meeting which included a compulsory security levy for every taxable adult in the clan, schools, churches, hotels, inn, lodges, shops, for proper funding of Agwa Central Vigilante etc; that would later form the components of the communique that were officially issued out by the ACU Secretariat.
Moved with passion, the generous businessman quickly signaled the President of the Union to inform him that he was taking care of the security bill of his kindred for the next two years.
On hearing this good news, the people of Umumgbogo erupted with joy, thanking him for absorbing these levies. They praised his big heart and empathetic gestures to his people.
When Inside inquired about the feelings of the people of his kindred, it was said that Ebere had solved one of the economic problems of many homes.
An anonymous source who did not want his name to be mentioned said that it was better to tell the truth. This security levy would be very difficult for 80% of parents to pay considering the hard economy.
“We want to thank our son, Ebere Igweoji who had volunteered to pay our kindred ‘s security levy for the next two years.
Actually, the intention of Agwa Central Union to have a functional and well-funded Central security network is very good because of the security challenges we are facing.
“But the truth is that we could not have sustained it because right now, so many parents are struggling to pay school fees for their children. With the high cost of living for couples with low income, feeding well is even a problem more about having extra bills to pay. We appreciate his sense of giving and ameliorating this challenge for his people. God blessed him”. She said.
Addressing the press during the occasion, Mr. Ebere Igweoji said that he was moved to do it by his spirit. He saw it as what needed to be done, and from the little God blessed him with, and in the spirit of the Easter celebration, he gave back to the people.
“I am very delighted to be in this gathering. I equally appreciate the leadership of Agwa Central Union for their love and passion to see that Agwa is better in our time.
I will not say that anyone told me to do this, but I just think that God has been so kind to me, and out of the little I have, I decided to undertake the two-year Umumgbogo kindred security levy so that our parents can take care of other pressing needs of the family.
“We shall continue to show support to ACU leadership provided they are doing the right thing, which I think that they have done marvelously well during the short period they took the mantle of Agwa ‘s leadership”, Igweoji said.
Other spirited individuals who joined Mr. Ebere Igweoji in paying security levies for their communities included Hon. Engr. Jerry Iriaka Asoluka, from Umuomi, and Inspector John Kennedy Ukaoha, Umugwuchoro, kindred, Ihuoba.
