In what many have called a watershed moment in Abia State’s political and religious discourse, Pastor (Dr.) John Amah of the Assemblies of God Church stunned mourners and dignitaries alike at a burial service when he openly praised Governor Alex Otti’s administration and took direct aim at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — including his own younger brother, Hon. Abraham Amah, who is the PDP State Chairman.
The striking comments came during a sermon at the funeral of Hon. Chief Isreal Chinemerem Nweke, a former Mayor of Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area, held at the Community Primary School, Amavo-Ukwu, Osisioma Ngwa.
“We prayed for this, thank God Governor Otti came to power,” Pastor Amah declared to a surprised crowd, many of whom were unaware of his direct family connection to the PDP’s top figure in the state.
He revealed:
“Yes, I am the elder brother of Hon. Abraham Amah, the State Chairman of the PDP.”
Pastor Amah went on to commend Governor Otti’s infrastructural achievements, specifically pointing to road reconstruction in the hometown of Ihechiowa, Arochukwu LGA.
“For the first time, our community is witnessing real development. I’ve seen it with my eyes. Governor Otti is not making empty promises — he is delivering.”
He was particularly impressed by the transparency and financial discipline of the current Labour Party-led administration:
“I never knew Abia State had so much money. For 24 years, PDP squandered it. And now, in just two years, one man — Alex Otti — is transforming everything.”
Pastor Amah’s sermon became even more intense as he confronted the failures of political leaders, including his family members.
“If you go to hell, you sent yourself there. Many of our so-called leaders failed woefully. I told my brother, ‘You people are a shame.’ I don’t care if you’re my brother — PDP failed Abia.”
He disclosed that he congratulated Governor Otti after his election victory, much to his brother’s dismay.
“My brother asked, ‘What’s the meaning of all this?’ I told him — I don’t care which party Otti joins, even if it’s APC. Let him just keep doing what he’s doing. That’s what matters.”
The pastor’s public stand has been widely discussed across Abia State, with many praising his honesty, fearlessness, and prioritization of truth over party loyalty.
The burial service was attended by top government officials and political leaders, including:
Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu
Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor (Dr.) Caleb Ajagba
Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu
Executive Chairmen of LGAs including Aba North, Aba South, Isuikwuato, Isiala Ngwa South, Ohafia, Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Osisioma, Bende, and others
Senior Special Assistants to the Governor: Dr. Obioma Rueben Nwogbe (Transport) and Hon. Ishmael Onuoha (Cooperative Societies)
Also present were several former LGA Mayors, community leaders, and religious figures, making it a major convergence of Abia’s political and spiritual elite.
As Pastor Amah’s words continue to echo across the state, many see this as a turning point in Abia’s political conversation — one that puts performance and integrity above partisan loyalty.
