In a bold move to restore peace and foster development, the Executive Chairman of Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, Hon. Chika Ibekwe, on Monday inaugurated the Caretaker Committee of the Obiangwu Development Union (ODU) at the Council Headquarters in Umuneke Ngor.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Hon. Ibekwe urged community members to prioritize peace and unity above all else. Addressing the newly constituted caretaker committee, she emphasized that their foremost responsibility is to foster lasting peace and inclusivity in Obiangwu, regardless of political affiliation.
“Your mandate is clear—bring unity and restore confidence among the people. This committee must carry everyone along and maintain the legacy of peace, development, and the progressive values of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” she stated.
Hon. Ibekwe also called on the committee to support the policies and initiatives of the Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, whom she praised for his people-focused governance. She encouraged the executives to launch community development initiatives and avoid any actions that could tarnish their reputation.
Pastor Chineduije Paschal Opara, the newly appointed President General of the Obiangwu Development Union and a native of Umuchoko Obiangwu, responded on behalf of the executive team. He expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to serve and promised to lead with diligence and fairness.
“I am filled with joy and humility to take up this great responsibility. We will work hard to earn the trust of our people and foster a spirit of unity in Obiangwu. I urge all sons and daughters of the community to support us,” Pastor Opara said.
He also commended Governor Uzodimma, whom he described as “the messiah of Imo State,” for his people-centered projects and developmental strides. The PG lauded Hon. Chika Ibekwe as “a woman of substance and a true servant of the people,” noting her unwavering efforts to entrench peace in Obiangwu.
Also speaking at the event, Dr. Perry Njoku, a prominent stakeholder and former Executive Secretary of the Imo Primary Healthcare Development Agency, praised the initiative. He expressed confidence in the new committee’s ability to deliver positive results.
