The Niger State Government has received a formal proposal for the construction of the much-anticipated Lambata-Giri Superhighway from a consortium led by BerghHaus Ltd.
The consortium, headed by its President, Moses Adesanya Busanu, presented the proposal to the Governor of Niger State, Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago, during a meeting at the Niger State Liaison Office in Abuja.
Speaking during the session, Governor Bago described the project as a long-standing dream since the creation of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), emphasizing its strategic economic significance.
“It is about 60 kilometres of road, so with this news you are giving us, it has given us hope to say there will be connectivity between Niger State and the FCT on a very new corridor,” the Governor remarked.
He further noted that the superhighway, when actualized, will stimulate substantial developments, including real estate, railways, hotel accommodations, urban renewal, and improved water and sanitation infrastructure. The Governor underscored the area’s potential to emerge as a vibrant development zone capable of competing favourably with Abuja.
Governor Bago urged the consortium and the state to initiate discussions by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU, he said, will outline clear terms of reference, proof of funding, role definitions, and a realistic timeline for the project.
He also directed the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, and other senior government officials in attendance to thoroughly review the proposal for informed decision-making.
In his remarks, Mr. Busanu said the Lambata-Giri Superhighway is being championed by a team of “critical stakeholders” fully capable of executing the project. He cited the Governor’s proven dedication to infrastructure as the key reason behind the consortium’s proposal submission.
“With the State Government’s approval, the highway can be completed within 18 months,” Mr. Busanu assured.
He also highlighted the highway’s potential to significantly reduce travel time between Niger State and the FCT. On financing, Mr. Busanu explained that the consortium intends to fund the construction using its own resources and implement a toll system to recover its investment.
The proposed Lambata-Giri corridor is expected to open new economic frontiers, improve inter-state connectivity, and serve as a catalyst for regional growth.
