Owerri, Imo State – The Imo State Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has announced a high-level meeting with all missionary schools operating in the state, as part of efforts to strengthen regulatory compliance and standardize educational practices across the board.
According to a statement from the Ministry, all churches managing crèche, kindergarten, nursery, primary, and secondary schools are expected to attend an interactive session on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM sharp, at the Ministry’s Conference Room, Block 3, Second Floor, Imo State Secretariat, Port Harcourt Road, Owerri.
The Honourable Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, Professor B. T. O. Ikegwuoha, will preside over the meeting, which is deemed mandatory for all Missionary Education Secretaries or their officially appointed representatives.
Participants are required to present the following documentation at the meeting:
Valid licenses to operate private schools (crèche to secondary level)
Renewal approval letters from the Ministry
All receipts related to initial approvals, licenses, and registrations (both originals and photocopies)
The meeting will focus on critical regulatory issues, including:
Enforcement of the unified curriculum approved by the Ministry
Use of authorized textbooks
Observance of national and state public holidays
Compliance with approved school hours (Monday–Friday)
Adherence to the official academic calendar for resumption and closure
In a related development, the Ministry disclosed that its Quality Assurance and Universal Basic School Education (UBSE) Monitoring Teams will commence a statewide inspection starting Monday, June 23, 2025, to assess compliance levels. All private schools—missionary or otherwise—are subject to this exercise.
Schools found flouting regulations will face appropriate sanctions as outlined by the Ministry’s enforcement framework.
This move underscores the Ministry’s commitment to upholding educational standards and ensuring parity across public, private, and faith-based institutions in Imo State.
