The body of Late Chief (Deacon) Vincent Ugochi Ezeukwu was committed to Mother- Earth on Friday, May 2, 2025.
The burial began with a pre-burial event on Thursday, May 1, 2025, featuring the killing of a big live cow which symbolizes his social status in the church and society as a man of honor and parades by the Royal Rangers of the Assemblies of God Owerri-West District, in conjunction with Agwa Sectional Churches.
The body of the demised Deacon Vincent Ugochi Ezeukwu departed the Gate Way Mortuary, Ogbaku, Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State in a motorcade to Agwa with a brief stop-over at his family house, Ezeukwu Akpaelu Mbaogu of Umunwalolo, Umuohuruzo Umulolo, Umuomi, Agwa and finally to his resident, Umuomi, Agwa, Oguta LGA, Imo State.
The corpse was welcomed by the family head in the company of Mr. Anslem Chigozie Ezeukwu, the First son before it was moved inside for lying-in-state and viewing of the corpse led by the Assemblies of God Church Owerri-West District, beginning with his children, brothers, families relatives, friends and finally to the members of the Assemblies of God Church.
After that session, the casket was brought out for the funeral Church. The church performed a playlet in honor of the late Deacon Vincent Ugochi titled “The Character Persona of Elder Vincent,” which summarizes his life and times in the service of God in the church. The playlet depicts the late Elder Vincent as a man with a burning desire to work for God without looking back, starting from the church building, tending to pastors, members’ welfare, and general Church activities and attendance.
In his sermon, with the topic: “The unavoidable appointment,.” Rev. Kingsley Ekezie of the Owerri District, simply tells the gatherers that death is an unavoidable appointment for everyone alive.
The call for one to always examine his or her life to be in the good book of God as he described the late Deacon Vincent Ugochi as someone who loved God and worked for him all his life.
He concluded by telling his audience to amend their ways so that they would not be taken by surprise when death calls.
The family members were called out for prayers by the church, and the presentation of the funeral offering was done by the superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Owerri-West District, Rev. Kingsley Ekezie, who also performed the religious rituals as the corpse was lowered into the ground and the grave covered.
While the covering of the grave was going on, a member of the family was invited for the biography reading.
The reading centered on late elder Vincent Oguchi’s birth, education, social life, work, church history, community services, and death.
The second phase of the burial involved the sharing of food, dance, and presentation of gifts and food items to the Umundom, Umuada, Umunna, and in-laws club, among others.
Items to be presented to the Umundom of Umunwalolo Umuohuruzo Umulolo Umuomi by the daughters-in-law of Vincent Ezeukwu ranged from big cord stock fish, heads of stockfish, big dry fish, tubers of yam, bread, beverages, others
After the presentation of those items, the happy Umundom held the big stock fish, about 11 of them estimated to have cost about #70,000 to 100,000 and above for each; they started dancing in appreciation to the daughters-in-law of late elder Vincent Oguchi Ezeukwu.
Other features of the burial ceremony included a live band performance, undertakers displays, a parade by the Royal Rangers of Assemblies of God Church Owerri-West District, the MCC+Global Resources Limited, a subsidiary Media outlet of JCV Global Resources Limited, offer services like live streaming, video coverage, drone recording for aerial views, decoration, DJ, among others.
In appreciation, Mr. Anslem Chigozie Ezeukwu thanks God for his provision, his family members, his in-laws, and his friends. He also appreciates the presence of the District Superintendent of Owerri-West District, Rev. Kingsley Ekezie, and his wife, the District Treasurer and Assemblies of God Owerri District, pastor Martins Okoroafor, and specifically Mr. Chukwudi Nwadike, and others.
