…NDI-AGWA PASSES VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ON AGWA CENTRAL UNION LEADERSHIP AS SHE ISSUES A COMMUNIQUE.
The Agwa Central Union (ACU) has shown that Agwa is safe and can dare again under a people-orientated and purposeful leadership rested on the tripod of accountability, transparency, and patriotism after the just concluded and long-awaited Agwa Easter General Assembly held on Saturday, 19th of April, 2025, at the Central School field, Obudi, Agwa Oguta Local Government Areas, Imo State.
The meeting, which is coming after 3 years of community crisis that forced everyone to flee the clan, has in attendance over 4000 people of Agwa sons and daughters from across the country and overseas to deliberate issues affecting the clan and chat about a way forward for the development and progress of the clan.
The event starts around midmorning with words of exaltation by Pastor Chidiebere Mbaeri, whose sermon hinges on the need for genuine forgiveness, reconciliation, love, and patriotism. He also warned against any act that is capable of breaching the relative peace the clan is enjoying, which signals a huge progress in the quest for total peace.
The President-General of ACU, Benson Akunya Esq., and his led National Executive summarise his address in five themes – the need for Ndi-Agwa to forgive themselves, one another, and the clan to make progress. The need for the Agwa clan to constitute strong and well-funded local vigilante groups to complement the efforts of the Nigerian Police Force at the Agwa Police Division. There is a need for all sons and daughters of Agwa to see Agwa as Jerusalem to come and rebuild together; hence, “East or West, no place like home.” The need for every Agwa born and the lovers of peace to join forces to fight crimes in the clan in its entirety. Vehemently discourage any act by anyone, no matter how highly placed the person is, that would plunge us into a second unrest again. And the need for Agwa to pass a resolution that would reflect her humanity that posterity would remember.
The National President-General also appreciates the massive support of the Agwa people in different forms, ensuring the ACU does not beg for the funds to carry out her programs.
The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, represented by the Area Command, Ohaji-Egbema Police Area Commander, ACP Ezeibe Emeka, thanked the leadership of ACU for her tenacity in combating crimes in the clan, providing leadership during and after the offensive periods and rethinking development in Agwa. He pledged to support everyone’s genuine and intentional effort to fight crimes in the state, not less Agwa.
ACU Women Leader, Lady Dr. Dorathy Utazi, who equally addressed the assembly, thanked ACU leadership and Ndi-Agwa for their support towards the women. She commended Agwa sons and daughters for always coming to their aid whenever the women call on them to support their programs, especially the annual program of “Feed the Widow,” WACE registration, and the ongoing construction of Agwa Civic Centre ably undertaken by the women of Agwa, which is at the lintel level.
The program received wider acceptance and attention with prayers by the Agwa traditional rulers and eldest persons in Agwa, led by Eze Chima Azubuike and Elder Nwakibu.
To support the program and the ACU leadership, Hon. Chief Chima Oscar Ukemezie (JP), the Ochiagha I of Agwa and a former Oguta LGA 2024 Chairmanship aspirant, donated a sum of 1 million naira.
