In a shocking incident on September 2, 2024, in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, a husband and wife were brutally set ablaze by outraged community members.
The couple was allegedly involved in a series of motorcycle thefts along the Orogwe/Ohii Road in Owerri West LGA, which triggered the community’s drastic response.
A viral video obtained by ThePressman Newspaper shows the horrific scene, with the couple engulfed in flames as a crowd of onlookers watches.
Eyewitnesses described the man as imposing and once well-regarded, but his alleged involvement in motorcycle theft had stained his reputation.
According to witnesses, the couple operated a coordinated scheme: the woman would lure commercial motorcycle riders under the pretense of needing a ride, while the man, armed with a pistol, would then steal the motorcycles.
Frustrated by the ongoing criminal activities, the community took justice into their own hands, resulting in the couple’s tragic and violent demise.
As of now, the police have not been informed about the incident, and the identities and residences of the deceased remain undisclosed.
