The Abia State Government, led by the Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, is churning out visionary and commendable leadership in the state.
Otti, who won the election under the platform of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 general elections, has barely three years as the Executive Governor of Abia State and has undertaken many transformative steps to revolutionize and turn around the infrastructural landscape and economy of the state for good.
In another historic moment to further strengthen and take up the digital space and economic policy to greater levels, the Government of Abia State is partnering with the West Indian Ocean Cable Company (WIOCC), one of the leading ICT and broadband companies in Africa and the world, to deliver effective fibre optic internet connectivity across the 17 Local Government Areas in the state.
The landmark official signing of the contract witnessed the governor’s potential highlights of the project.
Otti noted with a high sense of service to the people that the initiative is poised to redefine the infrastructure of the state, as well as elevate Abia as a digital connectivity hub in the country.
“In a nutshell, WIOCC is going to deploy infrastructure in two forms; pervasive fibre optics across the state, covering all 17. LGAs, and connecting the three zones of Aba, Umuahia, and Ohafia.
Otti emphasized that the motive behind the project is not just a strategic but an important step towards implementation with WIOCC commencing a statewide survey to start the project.
“The major sectors in the state, like the health and educational institutions, will be connected and they are going to start service immediately.
According to Gov.Otti, it is not merely a symbolic event, adding that it’s the beginning of the project.
Among myriads of projects executed under the administration of Governor Alex Otti, the WIOCC initiative promises to fill in gaps, empowering mobile network operators and other service providers in the state that rely on internet networks.
It will also transform key sectors of the economy in the state, such as healthcare, civil service, education, governance, enhancement of data connection, data collection, local transmission, and citizen feedback, to drive technological development in the state.
During the signing of the contract, one of the strong supporters of Gov. Alex Otti and the Founder and General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministries, His Royal Highness, King Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, commended Gov.Otti for his love for the state.
The exalted Man of God, who was very instrumental in securing this watershed $2 billion investment, spoke in towering words before the investors, as he described Otti as a transformative and transparent leader who is godly and empathic to the plights of his people. “Dr. Alex Otti is God-sent to transform Abia State.
“When investors are leaving Nigeria, Abia is attracting many investors because of his friendly and visionary leadership style,” Apostle Chibuzor said.
The statement of the General Overseer signposts Otti’s personalty bank and ability to create a serene and investment-friendly atmosphere, wooing international partners to invest in Abia State.
The scope of the fibre optic connection will end at the Owaza River, linking the Atlantic Ocean, which is going to make Abia State one of the telecommunication hubs.
It will connect Abia to other catchment states, such as Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross Rivers, by creating a seamless digital network for the southeast region.
The project is expected to create over 200,000 direct and indirect jobs for Abians and promote other economic opportunities in the state.
The Chief Executive Development Officer of WIOCC Groups, Derren Bredford, enthusiastically praised the leadership synergies, strengths, and passions of Dr. Alex Otti, describing it as innovative and forward-thinking.
Bredford noted that Abia State’s investment-friendly environment encouraged the decision of WIOCC to expand their operational sphere in the state.
He further maintained that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) shows a serious commitment by the government of Abia State and the WIOCC Group towards economic prosperity and technological growth in the state.
With Governor Otti’s trademark, Abia is on the path to becoming a trailblazer state in fibre optic infrastructure and a digital powerhouse. “Dr. Alex Otti is a lover of humanity and good governance.
“This project is another testament to the divine mission, ensuring a brighter and connected future for Abians and its people,” Apostle Chinyere remarked.
